The World's fourth largest continent with one of the most important resources - the Amazon rainforest which  produces the bulk of the world's oxygen supply.  There is much concern today about the loss of the rainforest to cultivation.  The Amazon River is the world's second longest river (4,055 miles) and has over 1/5 of the natural rainwater on earth!  The Amazon Jungle has over 50% of the world's species, most of which are contained in the Brazilian Highlands between the Andes Mountains on the western half the the Atlantic Ocean on the East!  Spanish is the main language, the majority of the population (305 M) are Roman Catholic.  Brazil is the largest country 3.3M sq. miles), Suriname the smallest (63K sq. miles) and Ecuador has the most people per square mile (88).
